December 24

God, this kid loves Michael Jackson SOOOOOO MUCH.  I love this kid.  He gets it.  Look at how much he is feeling this song!

Thanks, Terry.  Christmas came early this year.

Top 25 Songs of 2009, Part 3

3.  Basement Jaxx - Raindrops

The single best dance song I heard all year, and that says a lot.  This was practically the year of SUMMERJAMS and dance tunes.  This song absolutely brings down the house every time!

2.  Bat For Lashes - Siren Song

My heart breaks every time I hear this song.  “My name is Pearl, and I love you the best way I know how.”  It doesn’t get much more tragically beautiful than that.

1. Animal Collective - What Would I Want? Sky

I almost instantly knew this was the best song of the year.  It’s really that good.  Animal Collective keeps getting better and better, and I hope they never stop.  Perfect pop sound.

Top 25 Songs of 2009, Part 2

14.  Matt and Kim - Good Old Fashioned Nightmare

Matt and Kim are the two happiest people on the planet making the happiest music in the history of sound.

13.  80kidz - Miss Mars

Japanese Justice.  That’s how these guys were described to me.  Actualy, these guys give Justice a run for their money.  I smell collabo tour (Please)!

12.  Grizzly Bear - Two Weeks

Indie-darlings got massive attention this year, and for good reason.  They make phenomenal music.

11.  The xx - Heart Skips a Beat

I mentioned sex, right?  Alright, well, then the title explains the rest.

10.  Bat for Lashes - Daniel

Simply breathtaking.  Natasha Khan is beautiful.

9.  Maxwell - Pretty Wings

This song blew me away when I first heard it.  Sexiest song of the year.

8.  Phoenix - 1901

The opening few seconds prepare you so well for the amount of rock and roll in this track.

7.  Big Boi - Shine Blockas (feat. Gucci Mane)

This may as well be the sequel to UGK’s “International Players Anthem,” and my love for that song is no secret.

6.   Animal Collective - My Girls

Biggest surprise hit at dance parties.  Booyah.

5.  Four Tet - Love Cry

Hypnotic.  Another perfect Four Tet track.

4.  Yeasayer - Ambling Alp

The latest entry for the running, and they came out at a sprint.  This is such a sing-a-long.  So much fun.

Top 25 Songs of 2009, Part 1

25.  Mayer Hawthorne - Your Easy Lovin’ Ain’t Pleasin’ Nothin’

Modern day white dude doing 60’s/70’s motown type soul music.  Recipe for success.

24.  Double Dagger - Vivre Sans Temps Mort

This translates extremely roughly to “live without dead time,” which I assume means to live before you die, and kick ass.  At least, that’s what this song says to me.  THERE’S NO WAY WE’RE GONNA DIE TONIGHT!  IF WE SHOUT LOUD ENOUGH THEY CAN’T TURN OUT THE LIGHTS!

23.  The Horrors - Mirror’s Image

Probably my favorite intro track of the year.  This build is incredible.  When those drums hit, it’s over.  I’m a fan.

22.  Passion Pit - Little Secrets

Feel good jam of the year.  Lots of hype.  Too much hype.  Still really fun.

21.  Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Skeletons

Karen O makes some beautiful tunes, and this is up there with the best of them.

20. Mark McGuire - The Mafia Lights 2 (Live @ Pats in the Flats 6.24.09)

Clevelander and Emeralds member Mark McGuire SHREDS on the guitar.  Absolutely stunning song.

19.  Fututre of the Left - Throwing Bricks at Trains

Only Andy Falkous could start a song with “Slight bowel movements preceded the bloodless coup.”  He’s the greatest.

18.  The Dream - Rockin That Shit

Smooth voice and big sound.  That’s a jam!

17.  Neon Indian - Deadbeat Summer

Stoners of the world, rejoice!  Here’s the soundtrack to your summer.  Wonderful song.

16. The xx - Basic Space

Sex. Sex. Sex. Sex. Sex. Sex.  Did I mention this song is sex?

15.  Dan Deacon - Snookered

The second this song was over, I knew it would be on this list.  Wait for the complete joy freakout.
